Overview
The School of Management and Financial Studies (SMFS) is one of the pioneer academic schools of Thomas McGettrick Institute of Technology (TMIT), Ogoja, established to provide technical, professional, and entrepreneurial education in management, finance, and public sector administration.
The School is dedicated to the training of middle- and higher-level manpower capable of meeting the managerial, financial, and administrative needs of Nigeria’s industrial, commercial, and public service sectors. Its programmes are designed to produce competent National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates who are equipped with practical skills, sound theoretical knowledge, and professional attitudes required in today’s dynamic business environment.
SMFS emphasizes functional education, leadership development, analytical thinking, entrepreneurship, and ethical decision-making. Through classroom instruction, case studies, practical exercises, and industrial attachment, students are prepared to function effectively as business managers, accountants, administrators, and entrepreneurs in both public and private organizations.

History
The School of Management and Financial Studies was established as part of the foundational academic structure of Thomas McGettrick Institute of Technology, Ogoja, in line with the institution’s mandate to provide career-oriented and skill-based education.
The School was created to respond to the increasing demand for trained professionals in management, accounting, administration, and entrepreneurship, particularly within Nigeria’s growing private sector and public service. Since its inception, the School has expanded its academic programmes and instructional capacity to align with national manpower development goals and the standards of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
Through continuous curriculum review and staff development, SMFS has remained focused on producing graduates who are competent, adaptable, and capable of contributing to economic and organizational development.
Accreditation
All programmes offered under the School of Management and Financial Studies (SMFS) are structured in accordance with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) Minimum Standards for polytechnic education in Nigeria.
