The Department of General Nursing Science (GNS) is dedicated to training professional nurses who provide compassionate, ethical, and competent care across a variety of healthcare settings. The department offers both National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programs, forming an uninterrupted four-year curriculum that prepares graduates for professional registration and clinical practice.

The GNS curriculum emphasizes a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, covering patient care, medical procedures, health ethics, and critical thinking. Students undergo supervised clinical attachments, allowing them to apply classroom learning in real healthcare environments. The department ensures graduates are well-prepared for professional licensing exams and equipped to function effectively in hospitals, community health centers, and other healthcare institutions.

Objectives

Graduates of the GNS program are expected to:

History

The Department of General Nursing Science was established as a cornerstone of TMCONSO’s commitment to producing highly skilled nursing professionals. Since its inception, the department has trained numerous nurses to meet the growing healthcare needs in Cross River State and beyond. Over the years, the department has developed a rigorous training program, integrating scientific principles, practical patient care, and ethical practice to produce graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to the healthcare sector.

The General Nursing Science program is fully accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), ensuring compliance with national standards for curriculum, faculty, facilities, and professional training.
