Overview
The Department of Computer Engineering Technology at Thomas McGethrick Institute of Technology, Ogoja, operates in compliance with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) Minimum Standards for polytechnic education in Nigeria.
The department is established to produce competent computer engineering technologists equipped with sound theoretical knowledge, strong practical skills, and professional ethics required to function effectively in a technology-driven economy. Computer Engineering Technology is an applied engineering discipline that integrates computer hardware, electronics, networking, and basic software systems.
The programme emphasizes hands-on laboratory and workshop training, problem-solving skills, and industrial exposure through the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES). Graduates are trained to be industry-ready, self-reliant, adaptable to technological changes, and capable of contributing meaningfully to national technological development.

The objectives of the Computer Engineering Technology programme are to:

History
The Department of Computer Engineering Technology was established as part of the School of Engineering at Thomas McGethrick Institute of Technology, Ogoja, in response to the increasing demand for skilled technical manpower in computer and information technology-related fields.
From inception, the department was designed to align with national objectives for technical and vocational education by providing competency-based training in computer engineering. Over time, the department has expanded its curriculum, laboratory facilities, and instructional resources to reflect emerging developments in computer hardware, networking, embedded systems, and digital technologies, while maintaining compliance with NBTE standards.
